Kapiloff Religious School

Registration Packet Letter | Back to School Information |

The Morduck and Rebecca Kapiloff Religious School was dedicated in 1976 and the Paul and Be Kerman Education Center was dedicated in 2003. The school offers a vast curriculum that is based on multiple intelligences in the areas of Hebrew reading, accuracy and comprehension, Siddur literacy, Israel, Torah, halacha and Jewish law, ethics, values, life cycle, Jewish history, holidays and literature. United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, the congregational arm of the Conservative movement, declared us a Framework of Excellence School in 2003.

“The educational philosophy of the religious school is that every student should learn ruach, spirit for the love of learning to be Jewish, and kavod, respect for their peers and their elders,” says Director of Education Jill G. Epstein. “We meet each child where they are and focus on their individual needs”.

The school program is open to children in gan (kindergarten) through twelfth grade. Gan (K) -Bet (2) attend school during the early session on Sunday mornings. Gimel (3) – Zayin (7) attend school during the late session on Sunday plus one weekday afternoon (Tuesday or Wednesday). Upper School (8th-10th) attends school on Wednesday evenings and Post Confirmation attends on Thursday evenings.

Jill G. Epstein joined our staff in July, 2001. She has extensive experience in Jewish education both as a director of education and a teacher. In 1970, she taught religious school at B’nai Shalom of Olney so she understands both the role of a teacher and the role of a master teacher. Ms. Epstein earned a B.A. in elementary education from Adelphi University, an M.A. in Education and Human Development and a Family Education Certificate from the College of Jewish Studies and George Washington University. She serves on the board of professional organizations which include the Jewish Educators Assembly, Israel Quest professional committee, and the Youth Educators Network. She is also the president of the Seaboard Region for JEA.

Since 2000, our religious school has received numerous grants which include: Initiatives in Congregation Education (Federation), Turnaround Grant (Federation), Teen Grants from the Partnership of Jewish Life and Learning and grants from JYPI (Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute).
